Description

Hold a Christingle service in your church, invite the community, and local schools. A Christingle is a fun Christmas activity for families. It is made from an orange, red ribbon, a candle, four cocktail sticks topped with dried fruit or sweets. Each of the elements represents a different aspect of the gospel message. The Christingles can either be made in advance or as part of the service. Visit www.childrenssociety.org.uk/what-you-can-do/fundraising-and-appeals/christingle/resource-centre for resources from The Children's Society.

Rationale

Christingle services are a fun Christmas tradition. They engage families with the good news of Jesus birth using a simple format that children love. They are often the most well attended services of the year for people who do not regularly attend church.

Outcome

In some locations Christingle services have become so popular with the community, that churches have had to run several of them each year. In addition, the funds raised during collections at these services help The Children’s Society continue their work in supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
