Description

One church had planned an afternoon programme for children and families, but no-one came. As a result, the young volunteers decided to take trays of hot chocolate out to the skate park which is on the church doorstep. They were amazed at how many good conversations were possible as they hung out with the young people they met. The church suddenly discovered a mission opportunity that they had been previously missing, and set up a new weekly outreach to skaters.

Rationale

During the 'Beyond Belief' mission week, churches in Cambridge found that some of the most fruitful projects on which young people served, were those that required them to be creative and to take opportunities as they arose.

Outcome

Good conversations.
