Who We Are
Oriel Ministries was set up in January 2009 as a registered charity by Co-Founders Chris and Nikki Uglow, they saw a desperate need to focus their work in the south west and base themselves in Cornwall. Their main aim was to set up the band L.E.D who would tour the schools of the south west with a heart and passion to help young people make the right choices in life and to reach them with the Christian message in a culturally relevant way. Over the years the ministry has grown and many new projects have been launched mainly to help reach more young people but also to concentrate and deal more closely with some of the problems and issues they face. We have also seen a need to develop partnerships with certain churches who need that extra support and help when dealing with the process of follow-up particularly in setting up new youth clubs and Christian unions.
“We work with broken, ‘unchurched,’ hardest to reach young people in schools and local communities here in the south west and beyond.”
There is a real problem in our society today that is so important but is not being addressed. Instead the problem tends to be ignored and misunderstood by the people that could make a difference resulting in the youth of today being something to be feared. Through the influence of society and media the innocence of being young is lost in our children and teenagers, who are dealing with issues and situations that even most adults find hard to address. This forces them to make choices where the consequences aren’t considered and can lead them to ruin their young lives. Society is quick to judge the youth making them the problem of society rather than dealing with the underlying issues – mainly that our young people are bored, aimless, dysfunctional and lost with no role models to aspire to other than what is portrayed through the media. What hope do they have?
Our faith is our reason why – the Gospel is what motivates us – seeing young people’s lives changed and transformed by the message proves that they are longing to be the solution rather than the problem to society.
Helping young people to reach their potential in the school and community and enabling them to be the solution rather than the problem by adopting positive life choices.
Giving young people opportunities to explore the Christian faith through schools work, workshops, conferences, events and discipleship courses.
Helping to resource churches and other organisations that have a heart to reach and work with young people whilst providing attractive events and linking them with their local schools.
Seeking partnership schools, churches, organisations and businesses for long term development designed to follow up and disciple young people enabling them to explore positive life choices and the Christian faith.
Working year-round, filling the gaps often left by education and youth work organisations whilst connecting faith, church and schools to explore mission.
Through our work hundreds choose to respond to the Gospel each year and are now being followed up and discipled through church youth projects with many being mentored and given opportunities to explore faith further. As young people’s lives are being transformed they then are helping to make a difference becoming role models for their peers and influencing their families and friends who also can be challenged and lives changed.
