Recently, I have been painting with whoever wants to join me to create some stunning pieces of art. It is a peaceful thing to do, a haven in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life. People often want to talk too. Around 150 people joined in over a two day period in Norwich as part of ‘Celebrate Norwich’. This was a joint church venture to show-off all that the churches get up to. Painting together creates opportunities to have conversations and the paintings often have a link to the gospel. This doesn't have to be a city centre activity, the angel picture was completed outside a fish and chip shop in a housing estate.

Painting with people doesn’t have to be over complicated and the results can often be striking. This can be illustrated by contrasting abstract paintings with, for example, collecting hand prints, red and yellow, onto a black canvas (see pictures). This array of messy prints led to me explaining what I was doing. As the canvas was 4 old doors, complete with holes where the handles had been, I wrote: Once upon a time there was a man who said: “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

Many people wanted to know what was going on, which led to conversations.
