Description

Create an opportunity for a group of young people to take to the streets one lunchtime in Harvest.

The idea is for them to set up a stall, make sandwiches and give them away to people. A number of these young people can take it in turns to be available for conversations with people as well. The stall could display scriptures such as Psalm 104:13,15, and young people can use this to express God's love in a practical way.

Consider:

  • Prepare clear signs, for good visibility

  • Be sure to consider hygiene: ensure that antibacterial hand wash is used and visible. In addition, everyone should wear catering gloves and aprons. Utilize cool boxes, to keep filling fresh, and provide ample table space for sandwich preparation.

  • Be sure to pre-prepare all sandwich fillings: the grated cheese, the meat fillings, egg mayonnaise, sliced cucumber, shredded lettuce, etc. Make salad cream, sauces and dressing available. Don't forget to provide the sandwich bags and napkins.

  • You can also provide information about Harvest services, or church activities (such as Alpha), to customers.

Rationale

This activity can act as a reminder for God's provision and goodness to us all: that he does indeed provide our daily bread.

Outcome

A demonstration of God's love and generosity.
