Harvest is an opportunity for young people to be challenged to love and serve their local communities through what they say and do. The idea is for young people to offer a free lawn-mowing service, emphasising our call to care for God's creation.

  • How could the people most in need of help, be targeted?

  • Wearing T-shirts profiling the initiative for maximum visibility in the community

  • Using this time to pray for the occupants of the house, and to chat to them about church activities

  • Risk assessments should be completed to ensure all the necessary safety precautions are taken, including: the use of circuit breakers; safety training for lawn mowers; and provision of adequate supervision.

  • Activities should be completed in small groups.

  • Activities don't just have to be restricted to lawn-mowing.

  • How about offering fence painting, raking up leaves, garden clearing and general garden maintenance?

Harvest is a helpful occasion for young people to try a 'random act of kindness,' for the residents of their local community. This could provide opportunities for young people to develop growing relationships with their neighbours, and may also present chances for them to talk to people about God.

Increased community connections, and the local area is supported.
