Description

Challenge your young people to invite pupils, from their schools, to provide hampers of non-perishable foods for vulnerable people in the community.

Consider:

  • How you can get teachers, and the school, involved with this initiative.

  • Preparing a letter for the school to send out to all students, following on from an assembly devoted to Harvest, asking for help with the hampers.

  • Asking your Christian union to deliver the assembly, or involving local youth leaders in the project.

  • Consulting with the local authority to identify suitable projects to support: such as a woman's refuge centre, a local project for homeless people, or a local project reaching out to elderly people.

Rationale

Engage the whole community to support those in need. Helping to organise the effort, enables the church to facilitate others experiencing the joy of giving. The activity will hopefully encourage community spirit in your local area, and help you get to know neighbours better.

Outcome

Vulnerable people in the community will be fed. Members of schools could experience the joy of giving.
