Description

Purchase a copy of 'A Christmas Carol' audiobook for a friend or family member, to enjoy this recreation of the classic story, and the encouragement to consider some of the messages behind it.

A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens and first published in December 1843. It is the story of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and what happened to him after the supernatural visitations of Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. It appeared in early, austere, Victorian Britain which had largely forgotten or discarded its Christmas traditions. Dickens’ inspiration for the story was the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and his deep-seated faith.

Rationale

This is one of Canon J.John’s favourite stories. It is a family tradition, every Christmas, for him and his family to watch one of the many film versions together. J.John and Michael John re-read the classic story with all its dramatic twists, turns and compelling narrative. J.John has also added his personal postscript to the recording which inspires and challenges all of us to consider the underlying aspirations of Love, Joy and Peace.

Outcome

An enjoyable seasonal experience for your friend and an opportunity to explore further.
