I think that many people today are wanting to have at least one of the fruit's of the Spirit in their lives. To help people think about this and symbolically engage with it I set up a fruit stall in a prominent place and offered people pieces of fruit. Each fruit represented a different fruit of the Spirit. I gave out a few hundred pieces of fruit.

There were 9 different types of fruit used in this activity; apples, plums, pomegranates, bananas, lemons, oranges, pineapples, melons and kiwis. Together they represented the fruit of the spirit… Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, gentleness and self control. (don’t worry you don’t have to match which one went with what fruit!)
You can be as flexible as you like with this idea... sometimes I've walked around with a small basket of fruit, other times I've had a huge stall!

I was struck by how many people connected with what we were doing. Some people commented that they needed more peace so asked for an apple with a label on it that stated ‘peace.’ Others just filled their arms with as much fruit as they could carry. Most of all, people connected with the gesture and were just chuffed to receive a piece of fruit for free. They left my strange fruit stall with a smile on their faces. One or two people simply cried as we spoke with them about the kindness and love of God and the gifts that we can have for him.
