Over the years I have given away thousands of glow sticks as a small reminder of the one who was born as light in darkness. They’re as cheap as chips, people love them and they serve as a poignant truth that Jesus is the light of the world.

But there are many other things that you could give away, such as mince pies, chocolate gold coins or the story of Jesus in booklets. Whatever it is that you give away, it is a way of echoing the gift of Jesus for the world!

There are two places I get my nativity story booklets from: Bridge builders and Life Words.

Last year I joined a team giving away small bags of chocolates and sweets with a simple message: ‘because you are loved.’  I believe love lies right at the centre of the Christmas story, a love for every person on the face of this planet. The most outrageously generous over-the-top gift that has ever been given is this: God gave his Son Jesus for you and me.

People are stimulated to talk. People are reminded that Jesus is the reason for the season.
