‘Would you like to wish Jesus a happy birthday and sign his birthday card?’ We asked people around us…

Some did. Some laughed. Most looked perplexed. But it created a reaction…

We also left a plinth with a card and pen without asking people to sign it.

The Christmas campaign ‘Christmas starts with Christ’ states that while the Christmas story has been around for thousands of years, today it’s being forgotten.

Just 12 per cent of adults know the nativity story, and more than one-third of children don’t know whose birthday it is. Meanwhile, 51 per cent of people now say the birth of Jesus is irrelevant to their Christmas.

Here is one way to reach out to people in our communities with the most beautiful, life changing story that challenges people to remember the reason for the season.

It sparked a reaction and made people think about Christmas as Jesus’ Birthday.

We tried this activity last weekend (20th December 2014), and had some really interesting conversations with people. The team was particularly amazed at a really fruitful discussion we had with two young people, we probably wouldn't have met otherwise. This activity proved to be a helpful conversation starter. Thank you Chris.
